We welcome Transitional Pastor Dr. Rev. Bruce Johnson beginning December 1st, 2024.
Bruce was baptized in the Pacific Ocean during the height of the Jesus Movement along with 250 other people were baptized on the same day! Prior to becoming the Transitional Pastor at Northminster, he was a Presbyterian pastor in Scottsdale for 24 years where he became known for collaborative community partnerships. As part of his undergraduate work, Bruce lived in Jerusalem for 14 months where he developed a lifelong love for biblical historical geography. He was on the archaeological expedition staff at Ketef Hinnom, Jerusalem where the oldest biblical text yet found was discovered (Numbers 6:24-26). He is the General Editor of Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal and the editor of the memorial volume The Undiscovered C. S. Lewis: Essays in Memory of Christopher W. Mitchell (2021).
His forthcoming book, Takeoff: The RAF Talks of C. S. Lewis (2025), focuses on Lewis’s work with the Royal Air Force Chaplains’ Branch during World War II. Bruce, and his wife Laurie, live in Laurie’s hometown of Scottsdale. They have two grown daughters: Shelley and Megan. They are also the proud Papa and Nana to four grandchildren who all live in Texas: Liam, Andrew, Kaylyn, and Ryan. He enjoys woodworking, rooting for Air Force football, working with various local nonprofits, and spending time with family and friends.
